We measure the straight-line geographic distance to the nearest location having suitable environmental conditions in the future
This is the Minimum Required Movement (MRM) distance -- We can generate a complete map of MRM distances
MRM is an inverse indicator of the likelihood of local extirpation following climatic change
Species are more likely to be able to traverse shorter MRM distances, and less likely to be able to traverse long MRM distances
If there is no climatic change at this location, then MRM distance is zero
If the suitable range disappears altogether, then MRM distance is infinite
Can also map MRM Directions -- generally poleward for warming scenarios, but may be overridden by local conditions
